Nerja forms part of the Costa del Sol and is situated in the province of Malaga. It is at the easterly end of the province and only a 40 minute drive from Malaga airport.
The town, with its mild weather, can be enjoyed all year round.
It has many coves and beaches, including Burriana beach, which has received a Blue Flag award.
In the centre of the town is the Balcón de Europa, which was constructed around 1487. It is a former 9th Century Castle which is now a viewing point above the beach with wonderful views over the sea. Near the Balcón is the 17th century El Salvador Church. There are plenty of bars in this area where you can enjoy a coffee and watch the world go by, including the world famous one on the actual Balcón.
The old quarter of the town is virtually unchanged and is typical Spanish, with its whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with geraniums. It is amidst these streets you will find shops selling local art and craftwork, and other local products.
Nerja is flanked by the mountain range of Sierra Almijara to the east, which provides an interesting and picturesque backdrop to the town
